2006 Service Award
Dr. Mannan and Mr. George King

The 2006 Service Awards was presented to Mr. George King and Mr. Patrick Berwanger.

George King is a process safety associate at Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas. He is Senior Technology Associate for The Dow Chemical Company’s Integrated Engineering Solutions Technology Center; served on the editorial boards of the OSHA Process Safety Management Safety and Health Topics page; a member of the MKOPSC TAC 2001-2006; Symposium Planning Committee 2004 – 2006; Steering Committee 2001 - 2006.

Mr. King is Dow’s Process Safety Technical Leader for The OSHA and The Dow Chemical Company Alliance focusing on using OSHA’s and Dow’s collective expertise to further enhance a culture of prevention while sharing proven practices and technical knowledge in the areas of, but not limited to, process safety management (PSM) and ergonomics.

Pat Berwanger is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities in the area of pressure relief system design. He and his company have worked on more than 150 pressure relief system design and analysis projects. He is a co-author of the widely used Pressure Protection Manager©TM software package and has also authored numerous articles on pressure relief system design. He is a member of and contributor to the Design Institute of Pressure Relief Systems (DIERS).

Mr. Berwanger is a licensed professional engineer and was founder of Berwanger, Inc. He is
regularly requested to lecture and provide expert testimony relating to pressure relief systems, and has authored many articles.
